As Bastas Publications (hereinafter referred to as “Bastas”, “We”, “Our”, or “Us”), we recognize the importance of protecting sensitive personal information. We take precautions required to make sure that the data acquired by our journals is processed, stored, and utilized with highest regard for the privacy of our users. This policy describes how we collect information, what information we collect, how we use and protect it. By visiting our websites and using our services, users agree to this privacy policy.

Data that we collect

We collect information when your browse through our journal websites, create an account on the editorial software that collect and process data on our behalf, submit new manuscripts, review an article, commit other editorial activities, complete the online forms and questionnaires, sign up to receive newsletters, or correspond with the editorial and support staff of the publisher and our journals by post, by telephone, or by e-mail. In the course of using our services, we acquire and store the following personal data:

  • Salutation, name, phone number, postal address, e-mail, and other contact details,
  • Affiliation, country, topics of expertise, and other researcher information,
  • Title, keywords, abstract, domains, manuscript files, suggested reviewers, conflict of interests, and other submission information,
  • Customer name, product code, date, amount and method of payment, and other payment information. In the case of payments with individual or corporate credit cards, transactions are handled by third-party payment providers that use encrypted protocols to ensure transaction security. We do not store credit card information.

Purpose for collecting personal data

The personal information may be used by our Management, Editorial, IT, Production, Accounting and Marketing departments for running the standard operations of an academic publisher, such as:

  • Access to user accounts of the editorial system,
  • Manage the editorial and production processes of the manuscripts,
  • Communicate with authors, reviewers, and editors,
  • Issue invoices and process payments,
  • Solicite new articles,
  • Share updates,
  • Respond to legal authorities.

Data storage, protection and sharing

We use industry standard administrative and technical measures to ensure the confidentiality and integrity of personal information against accidental loss, alteration, deletion, or unauthorized access and disclosure to keep the information. We limit access to protected personal information on a "need-to-know" basis. We are not a partner of an ad server company. Collected information is stored just as long as it is required for its purpose. 

Except where necessary for our operations, such as the publication of the article on journal web pages, dissemination of articles to indexing services, obtaining DOI numbers, processing of payments, we do not disclose, sell, or trade personal information to other third parties, with the exceptions when it is required by law enforcement officials or when we take part in a corporate merger or acquisition. 

Although we use strict measures to keep the information as secure as possible, transmission of information through the internet is not completely safe, and we cannot guarantee the safety of your personal information. Therefore, you should use our websites and services at your own risk.

Privacy of children

We do not knowingly collect any information from children under 13. Such minors should only use our websites and services with consent from the legal guardians.
